A special holiday season edition of Santa & Myself as Santa (2006), a commemorative photograph highlighting race, acculturation and falsity. For The Container’s multiples show, the artist carefully re-photographed the non-existent 2006 version from its digital documentation using Polaroid camera. With subtle differences in each print and through lost details of ‘the original’, the work became a quest of finding uniqueness in the era of digital duplication.

Yu Araki is a Japanese video artist and filmmaker who inserts himself into various locations of the world in a form of cultural espionage to examine how different cultural, socio-political, and geographical contexts inform his resulting works. He received his B.F.A. in Sculpture from Washington University in St. Louis and completed his M.A. in New Media at Tokyo University of the Arts.
